The Name Game

   Ashoke means "without sorrow" because he doesn't let the bad times weigh him down. He continues to move forward. In the book it says, "A man who is vulnerable, who has suffered in an inconceivable way" (Lahiri 123). Ashima means " boneless and limitless" I do not believe that this relates to her. Nikhil means "whole and entire." Nikhil is very wholesome meaning that he is very open and true. In the book, "His voice sounds harsh, accusing, but his eyes well with tears. 'Why haven't you told me this until now'"(Lahiri 123). Sonali means, "gold" when she was a baby she put a dollar in her mouth. In the book it says, "She plays with the dirt they've dug up from the yard and threatens to put the dollar bill into her mouth" (Lahiri 63),    My name means "princess". I don't really know how this relates to my personality because I don't want to just say I act like a princess because ...

The Namesake- INTRO

I do not know a lot about my family background. All I know is that my ancestors came from England and entered the United States through New Orleans. My family has always worked with machinery. We currently have a family business that has been passed down over 3 generations. I do not believe that there is any current connections from my ancestors coming from England, however; the family business can be looked at as a 'tradition' because the business gets passed down to the children.
