Woody Guthrie was born on July 14, 1912 and died on October 3, 1967. Guthrie was an American Singer with an influence in American Folk Music. His most popular song was written in 1944 and released in 1950. It is called, "This Land is Your Land". Folklore means traditional beliefs and stories of a group of people that is sometimes passed down through generations. In order to analyze why the song is folklore a person could break up the term "Folklore" in order to get a better understanding of what the song means. Folk means traditional culture of a country. The term Folk in terms of music is music that comes from traditional culture. Lore means knowledge of a subject by a group. Journal 5: In the book 1984 the statement "WAR IS PEACE" is a statement used by the party to displays how engaging in war will keep the peace in the country. "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY" represents how an individual cannot be separate from society. "IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH" displays how the comrades have to give themselves to Big Brother and has to give themselves away and throw away all of their beliefs. They contradict each other because the statements are false. War is not peace because there would always be constant violence and peace is not violence. Peace is like an harmonious state where everything is good. Freedom is not slavery. 1. The book, Divergent by Veronica Roth , left an impression on me because of its complex view of society. In Divergent the author creates a society to display how society looks like after a disaster strikes. This book made me think a lot about how society could change. I don't think it is possible to have a society like the one in Divergent, however I do believe that society could be impacted due to a disaster like war. The book also influenced the way I think about the future. Our world changes every single day and there are a lot of factors that cause this. Since Divergent is a movie about the future of the human race I constantly think about things that could cause that to happen to us.
